Why does my fish oil make me burp?
Fresh fish doesn't smell fishy, and neither does fresh oil. The sharp, fishy smell — and the burp that tastes like it — is what omega-3 oil starts to do as it ages. Chemists call it oxidation. Omega-3 oils are among the most fragile oils there are: every month in a drum, every degree of heat and every bit of oxygen along the way keeps changing the oil after it's made. By the time some of it reaches a softgel, it has a lot to say on the way back up. So before you give up on omega-3s, ask a different question — not which brand, but how fresh.
How do I know if my krill oil is rancid?
Cut a softgel open and smell it. Fresh krill oil smells like the ocean; rancid oil smells sharp, fishy, like paint or old varnish. Three more signs: (1) a fishy burp — fresh oil repeats less; (2) color — krill oil should be a deep red from its natural astaxanthin, and pale or brownish oil has been through something; (3) heat — softgels that spent a summer in a hot mailbox or warehouse aged faster. And the one that needs no nose at all: look up your lot's peroxide value.

Krill oil vs fish oil — which one causes the fishy burp?
Less a krill-versus-fish question than a fresh-versus-old one. An oil that sat in drums for months will taste like it, whatever species it came from. Krill oil does carry its omega-3s largely in phospholipid form and arrives with natural astaxanthin, an antioxidant that helps protect the oil — but astaxanthin can't undo months in a drum. Whichever side you land on, ask how it was made: the label tells you the species, the process tells you what's in the capsule.
Is Captains krill oil extracted with hexane?
No. Most krill oil is shipped to a processing plant and extracted with chemical solvents or supercritical CO2, then stored in drums until it's needed. Captains is extracted mechanically on the boat — no hexane, no solvents, nothing added — with only the astaxanthin that was already in the krill. Twenty years, same process.

"Right off the boat."Good stuff, reasonably priced.
As an aging 85 year old, my feet started swelling to where I had to buy 2x larger size. Heard about the benefits of captains krill oil helping and decided to give it a try. To my amazement within one week and thereafter, absolutely no swelling whatsoever. This is the first supplement I’ve ever taken that actually does some good. Not even all the fish oil oil I’ve taken for many years have done anything at $45 a bottle. Im a happy camper…lol.

Out of fish oil capsules. A neighbor recommended krill oil instead with lemon capsule covering. Expensive but provide same anti inflammatory & supposedly brain stimulation. I’ll have to get back to you on brain stimulation.
It took me a while to find a krill oil supplement that I trust and with Captains Krill Oil I finally have. For unknown reasons, nearly all other krill oil products contain a sugar alcohol derived from corn syrup called sorbitol -- something I don't want to ingest. Captains is more expensive than many of the others, but to get a pure and real supplement like this for me it's worth the extra money. My advice, don't spend time looking for something better because you won't find it.

I have been taking Captains Krill oil ever since it hit the market. It is the best krill oil on the market. I have been without it and it was not a pleasant experience, my arthritis flared up in a bad way. As soon as I am back on Captains Krill it reduces the inflammation considerably!!

Totally better than the others by far. The others won’t even answer questions because they’re product is inferior to captains. It may be half the price but who wants to consume the chemicals it’s processed with and the loss of potency because of poor storage. Not to mention the flippant evasive arrogant way they address their customers questions. All my questions are answered by captains quality and the immediate difference I can tell. I tell it like it is, I have a sensitive system I have to be careful. I’m happy with captains and I’m very picky and I don’t easily give an opinion like this unless I’m completely sure. All my reading paid off and my experience with the other product. I’m glad I found captains what a huge difference in quality. I can respect people who go out of their way to do something right for the people they serve.
I'm taking it as a medicine so it is allowed even though I don't think shellfish products are good for us, but I feel you can isolate the good from the bad there therefore I take it. I know this oil is good for me, but I'm probably so healthy with taking Dr. Gundry's olive oil and the rest of my diet that I don't notice the difference that the Captains Krill oil makes. I don't need it to have a big explosion of feeling good in my body to know it's good for me and I will continue to take it.[Update 1/12/21] My first two bottles are almost gone and I'm gonna take the risk and purchase another couple bottles which will be another two months supply for me since I take two gel caps a day.I still haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary, but will continue taking it at least for the 6 month many back guarantee.

I just tried the product. Upon opening, I will say that the capsules and the container (inside) smell like hot cocoa mix. I have no idea why or if that’s concerning... I may cut open one capsule to “see/smell” what’s inside. I’ll update my review upon investigating and potentially trying them for a while.Update 7/2/20 - have been taking them since I received them with no adverse effects. Still wondering why they smell the way they do. I would expect a fishy smell, but that’s not the case. I haven’t opened one yet to see how it looks/smells. I will post another update after doing so.

Gave to my dog with kidney disease and after 3 weeks his kidney values started going down. It blocks phosphorus which is the problem.
